We ended up sleeping in a little today which turned out to feel very, very good after traveling so much and not sleeping in a bed for a long time. The hostel we are staying in is very nice, free internet, the rooms are very clean , free lockers, very, very helpful employees, it is great. I was so happy to have a bed to sleep in too, let me tell you!
Last night we went out for awhile and took some time to explore the area of Munich we are in, which is very nice. Today, after waking up, we went on a "free" walking tour, and by "free" I mean that we didn't have to pay for the tour, but a tip for the tour guide was recommended. Our tour guide ended up being really awesome and knowing a very large amount about Munich and its history, he also happened to be a singer who had recorded in, of all place, good old St. Cloud! Small world.
Anyway the tour took as all through the city center of Munich which is very nice. We learned that only 4 structures survived the bombings of WWII and that, regardless of the look, most of the buildings in Munich are only 50 or so years old, if not younger. The buildings look older than they are though because in the rebuilding process the city decided to rebuild in the old style, giving the city an older vibe.
The tour was very good though. We had a delicious sausage/bratwurst and, surprise to some people!, I am actually starting to like Mustard! Also, to the probable dismay of my mother, we have had some very good beer here in Bavaria too! but not too much, I promise!
We also learned about the culture of the city and how to act, what to do, where to go, tips on getting around and many other helpful things on getting around and saving money in Munich.
The tour guide knew his history very well too, we learned about Munich's history, the history of Bavaria (they only wear lederhosen in Bavaria and the people of Bavaria are very, very proud of their heritage!), the role of Munich in the 3rd Reich, and much more. It was well worth the tip we had to pay!
At the moment we are all enjoying a little downtime; napping, emailing, chatting, blogging, and all around just catching up a little. Tonight we plan on finding some more delicious sausage to eat and enjoy the evening again! I am working on uploading pictures and starting a web photo album, so you will see pictures soon, I might also throw some pictures on facebook...MAYBE.
Overall Munich has been an awesome city and we aren't sure when we are going to move on to Prague yet.
I will now leave you with a few photos for your viewing enjoyment! Take care!
