Prague is a very gorgeous city.
Today we woke up fairly early and ate our FREE breakfast, which we were pretty excited about because it was free, and then we went on a FREE walking tour of the city of Prague! So we haven't spent much money today which is a good thing!
Anyway, the free walking tour was excellent once again and we saw and learned lots about the city of Prague. Since Prague was kept pretty clear of WWII's path of destruction it has some very beautiful old buildings in the Gothic, Baroque, and Cubist styles of architecture, along with others. All of these buildings are gorgeous buildings with lots of history behind them.
We passed by the Estate Theater where, in his later days, Mozart performed and which is the only theater that Mozart played in still standing completely.
We saw the Catholic and Hussite churches that dominate the skyline with their gorgeous steeples. We passed by the building where Czechoslovakia declared its first independence way back when. We saw the Charles Bridge built by King Charles IV starting in 1357 and the very magnificent Prague Castle which is enormous. You could fit around 7 football fields within it's walls! The view we got of the castle from across the river was by far the most amazing view I have had yet and was amazing, the castle is huge!
The city of Prague is a very old and beautiful city. It is, like any city, a little grimy in places but also very unique and different form lots of other European cities. We were told before we left that Prague was going to be cheaper than the rest of Europe, which seems kinda of true, but it also seems pretty equal in prices to the U.S. at the moment. Here in Prague they have a futbol team called FC Sparta and I am torn at the moment to whether I want to buy a jersey or not, they are very cool, but kinda spendy, we will see I guess!
Anyway, we are going to a garden on the top of the hill in town this evening because we have been told it has a magnificent view of the city at night. Hopefully this is true!
It is nap time for me though, I need to catch up on my sleep soon, which is part of why I am looking forward to the relaxation that Ireland will bring.
Hope everyone is enjoying a labor free day off and that all is well!
Enjoy the fall season for me when it comes, it is my favorite as some may know!
Matt
